John Kelley in the #88 Ford had drifted high exiting the fourth turn in this race at “81” Speedway north of Wichita, Kansas allowing Bob Lawrence in the #061 to slip by here and take the lead of this race.  Lawrence’s lead did not even last the full length of the front straight-away though as Vern Allen in the #0 car, seen entering this photo at right, passed Lawrence and went on to win the race.

#395 Harold Atkinson spun out between turns one and two at “81” Speedway and #34 Lloyd Edmonds took evasive action to miss him.  #061 Bob Lawrence had been following so close behind Edmonds that he did not see Atkinson’s car stopped on the racetrack until about the same time that this photo was taken and he could not maneuver quickly enough to avoid a collision.  Neither car was seriously damaged in the resulting crash.
