I am the only racing son of the great A.J. Shepherd. These pictures really stirred my memories of the racing in this area when I was just a lil' boy. My first memory of a race car is riding in a car my Dad was driving at CeeJay Stadium in 1955, Ablue a d white '37 chev with the # 37 on the side. Needless to say it is now 45 yrs later and i am still involved as an owner with a 16 yr old 3rd generation racer comin' up behind me, Richie Shepherd. Again thanks for ALL the pictures and memories.....

I doubt that we have any relation, but I thought that I would say hi. All I know about my paternal grandfather was that he may have come from Wales or Ireland. He was a ne'er do well and while my paternal grandmother was alive she was reluctant to speak of him. His name was Charles Lawrence, but that is about all that I know of him. I may spend some time to research the family tree in the future . Take Care Bob

What a great page! I grew up going to McCarty Speedway in Dodge City KS. I have a lot of stuff from the 70s and 80s, old programs, paper stories, photos, weekly program inserts, and Merrick Auto Racing stuff. I also raced super-modifieds and sprints at DC and 81 Speedway. Have not raced in years, but still have the sprint, also most of the Evert Isaac 6 super which was my first car. Now living in Wichita. thanks for the great time sharing this page with my wife Tricia - bruce

You have done a really nice job on this site. Thank you so much for preserving my childhood memories. In the weeks before my Dad (Bud Haehn) passed away I spent many hours with him assembling all of his pictures and stuff into books in cronalogical order s me really burnt around the edges from a house fire in the ealry 70's but he insisted they be included. We also had a big party for days just weeks before he pasted away and there are pictures of all the old Drivers that were in attendance in the picture. will see what I can find for you. Again Thank You!!!!

Love your site!! I grew up going to races in Enid, OK from '69 thru '83. I really like your pictures of Bob Wills, Roy Allen Jr., and Benny Feely they were somer of my favorites growing up. My parents sponsored Roy Allen Jr's Son's race car last year a Enid so I still have a few connections. I have raced a few years ago and my number is 0m. I chose the number 0 because all of my favorite drivers had a zero in their numbers. David Hughes #60, Pinky Mullens #02, and Buck Cadwell #07, and Billy Patton r. #00. My number is an oval with a heart for the hole in the zero. Thanks again. G.R.

This is excellent. The very best site I've seen, especially for the Kansas area. You have done a great job in preserving racing history. I can't imagine the time you have put into this. Yes I can! Get it on some search engines for the local racing fans to see, if you haven't. I've searched for different types of Kansas racing sites but I never find any. I will put a link on mine when I get the links page up (if thats alright). I'm just starting mine (Racing From The Past) from the 70's.

The best I've seen in restoring history of a track lone gone. Many tracks in this area (east tenn.) have come and gone and it seems no one took time to take pictures. But, there is hope,a gentlemen in this area is writing a book of all the tracks that were in the state of Tenn. only. Anyway....... I really enjoyed the history.

My brother Joe and I raced at 81 Speedway in Wichita in the early seventies. My last car was a '55 Chevy, #83, built by Bud Brooks. I paid $500 for it. I'm sure Joe would have loved this web site. Joe passed away several years ago, at the age of 58. was fairly young when most of these pictures were taken, but I can remember the "8 Ball" car, and many of the names mentioned on this site. Ernie McCoy rebuilt a 65HP airplane engine I had in an old '47 Aeronca Champ. He was building and racing a McCla en with a 350 C.I. Chevy for Bobby Alyward of Wichita at the time. This was around 1968. I wasn't aware of Ernie's past racing experience at that time, although I heard he could really make a flat head go!! Thanks to everyone who has contributed. I'll be a frequent visitor to this site.
